  1. If you are interested in an 88 year old who still designs, builds and paints settings, lights productions and occasionally directs plays in the local little theatre in Bolton as he now cannot expect at his age to be employed for these professionally, I may be one of your subjects. My speciality is creating unusual properties when required for productions, something I have done professionally over some 60 years. My hobby among others is model making in various materials including model and toy theatres. I’m not sure that this unusual or even interesting but I would be happy to talk to you.

  2. Some of the most meaningful photography I have done was in adult assisted living/ nursing facility I took photos of the patients, some alone, some with family. In one case a son asked me take a photo of his parents. I got busy and forgot. I was about to leave when he reminded me. I unpacked and took a dozen images of the couple. I returned a few days later to leave 5×7 prints of each person. But I was told the lady I photographed last passed away over the weekend. The home offered to deliver the print. The family sent me the most beautiful note of thanks for capturing their parents alive and smiling just before she died.

  3. I’m an expat Brit. in the USA, may be a bit far to be considered for your next photo shoot. I shall be 82 yrs young this year, and have created 2 acres of British style landscaping around our 200 acre ranch. I recently won 7 ribbons for my woodcarvings and also I create large mosaics. Having studied written and spoken Arabic in Amman, Jordan for 2 years, at age 60, I am now studying hieroglyphs and Italian. Our granddaughter in UK will marry an Italian next April, the wedding in Sorrento having been cancelled this year due to Covid 19. Another favorite pastime is pastel painting, I love to paint children’s portraits, they are treasured heirlooms and so, I shall live on, a little part of me hanging on the walls of families. I have also written 3 historical fiction novels, based on well researched fact. 6 years ago I was commissioned to write an article about the Great Roasting Kitchen of Henry VIII th. I had the extraordinary experience of living in the Royal Pie Makers quarters in Fish court, in the beautiful Hampton court Palace for 7 days. I had 60 acres of riverside gardens and all the little courtyard to myself after the massive black and gold gates closed behind the tourists each day…..A twisty set of stairs spiraled up to the Fish Court bedrooms, but I made it, even though I had a replacement hip operation just 6 weeks before. I have a wonderful family in England, they visit us bi-annually in the US and we have some wonderful adventures, eg. swimming with the sharks at Wonders of Wildlife in Branson, Missouri…..Life’s good.

  4. I saw the BBC item about your project photographing people aged over 80. My father is 88. He was born in Guernsey and evacuated to northern England just before the Germans occupied the Channel Islands in WW2, returning five years later; became a Methodist Minister and worked in Jamaica for ten years and then in various parts of the South of England ; and retired 26 years ago. He is very independent, active in his local community in Hampshire, and until lockdown was still preaching once a month. He writes an occasional reflective piece for the local newspaper, and has made a short video and materials about his experiences during WW2 for use in a couple of schools. He is a really gentle, all round Nice Guy.

  5. Hi Laura, my Dad, Tom, is 89 and had responsibility for the UK’s Thor missile deterrent in the 1950s, while in the RAF as well as the associated liquid oxygen coolant. The stress of being in sole command of these deadly materials caused PTSD that he is still dealing with to this day. The fact that he still remains a positive and forward-thinking person I find remarkable. I know he would be interested in talking to you about his life and possibly a portrait. Kind regards, Ed (son).
